About Buy.com
Buy.com was an early internet retailer founded in 1997 that sold electronics, computers, software, and general merchandise at discounted prices. One of the first major e-commerce competitors to Amazon, Buy.com was known for razor-thin margins and frequent promotional pricing that attracted deal-seeking consumers in the early days of online shopping.
The site was acquired by Rakuten in 2010 and rebranded as Rakuten.com Shopping in 2013, effectively ending the Buy.com brand. During its heyday, Buy.com was a major destination for electronics, games, movies, and computer hardware at prices competitive with and sometimes beating Amazon.
Former Buy.com customers will recognize many of the same sellers and products now available through Rakuten.com or directly through Amazon, Newegg, and other electronics-focused online retailers.
